Mónica Padilla
Mónica studied in the Visual Arts School of the UNAM with Luis Nishizawa. She later studied color, light and materials techniques with Luis García Ordoñez.
She worked at the Friendship Home for Children With Cancer for more than 12 years, conducting the painting workshop and creating Christmas cards to fund several cancer treatments.
She was officially selected for the Illustrators’ Catalog of Conaculta, and illustrated three books. The last one, “Muyal”, was selected for the Childrens’ Books National Prize. She has held exhibitions of her work since 2000, and participated in exhibitions with themes related to cats and spirituality. Her last exhibition was held in Neko Cafe, in Vienna –one which definitely won the hearts of the Viennese–.
Her first individual exhibition was at “El Chisme” gallery. Nearly 20 works were showcased, including oil, tempera and watercolor paintings, as well as engravings. Her second individual exhibition, in 2010, was at Garros gallery, displaying nearly 30 works.
Her artworks have traveled to France, China, Spain, New Zealand, U.S.A., Canada, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Italy and Ireland.
The art of Mónica Padilla intends to honor the spirit of cats, raising awareness about them as sacred and magical beings.
